Job Requirements of Deputy Sheriff - Lateral Police Services Division:
Training and Experience (positions in this class typically require):
Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade.
Two years of experience dealing with the public.
An equivalent combination of experience and training that will demonstrate the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying.
Licensing Requirements:
- Possession of a current Oregon driver's license at the time of appointment.
- Possession of a basic certification in corrections and as a peace officer with the State of Oregon at the time of appointment or the ability to successfully apply for such certification.
Employment for Deputy Sheriff is contingent upon successful completion of:
Physical Abilities Test: The Oregon Physical Abilities Test (ORPAT) will be administered. Visit to review the physical abilities description, preparing for ORPAT, and to view a video of the test.
*You must pass the physical abilities test in order to be eligible to take the written examination.
Written Examination: Assesses memory and understanding of oral/written information; reading comprehension; numerical calculations and written communication skills.
*You must pass the written examination in order to continue to the interview process.
Interview: All eligible candidates will be contacted by phone to schedule a date and time for an interview.
*You must pass the interview in order to continue in the hiring process.
Background Investigation: A thorough background investigation will be conducted including a psychological examination, an evaluation with a psychologist, and a medical examination with a drug screen and TB test.
*You must pass the background investigation in order to continue in the hiring process.

About the Position
The Lane County Sheriff’s Office is looking for DPSST Patrol Certified law enforcement officers who are interested in an exciting opportunity to join our team. THE STEPS FOR THIS RECRUITMENT WILL BE STREAMLINED FROM OUR USUAL PROCESS.
The Lane County Sheriff’s Office has a strong family oriented culture employing dedicated and highly motivated deputies who provide police services in a beautiful county encompassing 4,700 square miles. This posting is open to currently certified applicants who will have at least two years of law enforcement patrol experience at time of hire.
Additionally, we offer:
- Pay commensurate with experience.
- 80-hour vacation/leave (PTO) bank at hire, additional 80-hour vacation/leave (PTO) bank at one year.
- Take home vehicle.
- DPSST certification pay 3% intermediate, 3% advanced, if qualified.
- Bilingual pay available if qualified after assessment.
- Abbreviated Academy for out of state applicants.
- Longevity incentive 2.5% at ten years, additional 2.5% every fifth year after.
- Other assignment specific incentives available.

About the Division
The Sheriff's Office, committed to justice and integrity, is sworn to protect and honored to serve the residents and visitors of Lane County.
The Sheriff’s Office provides an array of correctional services including a jail, a community corrections center (work-release), and out-of-custody programs such as community service and an inmate work crew.
Deputies provide patrol of urban, suburban and rural areas, including timberlands, waterways, and coastal dune areas. Police service includes criminal investigation, court security, prisoner transport, process services (criminal and civil).
Schedule: Must be available to work all days and shifts, including evenings, weekends and holidays. Overtime may be required.
